Class Options for Grades 4th-5th

Join our vibrant literature class where students don't just read - they engage, analyze, and sometimes debate! Through the Socratic seminar model, your child will develop critical thinking skills by discussing quality fiction in a lively, interactive setting.Go beyond plot summaries and “fill in the blank” worksheets with spirited conversations and original insights.
Watch your child become passionate about books and thinking creatively! The ending of each book is celebrated in class adding to their sense of accomplishment and bring to an end their journey with the characters they met along the way.
12 Weeks - Wednesdays
9/9 - 12/2 (no class 11/25)
Time: 10:30am - 11:45am (75 min)
Spaces: 12
Cost: $450/student
Location: Online
Supplies Required: listed books for the class, small mini post-its for page markers
Technology Requirements: Access to a laptop for writing assignments, checking our Google classroom, and a Zoom account.

What happened when she placed her hand on the oak tree? Why is there a journal lodged in a tree branch high above? Was that fox following him along the trail? Students will dive into the woods with their imaginations to create short stories and poems which will be collected into a student authored anthology. Using nature as our guide, along with samples from other famous texts, students will learn how to use the environment around them to spark creative characters, plots, and perhaps even some wise poetry!

How to register:
Pay the $25 registration processing fee. Once payment is made, you'll be given a link to a google form to immediately select classes you are reserving. (Only one fee is required per family per calendar school year.)
Mixed Age Recommendations
Homeschooling classes offer the wonderful opportunity for mixed age learning. This year 6th graders are welcome in all classes offered. The literature class for the 6th-8th grade may offer more challenging books or themes depending on what is selected. You may want to decide where to enroll them based on their maturity level and where they are most likely going to enjoy their peers.
Payment Options:
Out of pocket: Tuition can be paid out of pocket at the time of registration via credit card.
Approved Charter Schools: Sky Mountain, Cabrillo, Granite Mountain, Sage Oak (In progress: Mission Vista)
Payment Deadline:
Charter school purchase orders must be placed by 08/26. If purchase orders are not received by 09/01 your credit card on file will be charged the balance for the classes. It will be refunded when charter funds are received.
Refund policy:
Cancellations after 08/17 are not permitted. If cancellations are made after this date your card will be charged a $75 fee per class. A lot of work goes into preparing for your students. Please honor registration policies.
